I’m not angry or upset about anything in particular at the moment, but I thought I’d take a little time to write something out that had been bugging me about allies. It’s certainly not all-encompassing or totally comprehensive, but I hope it’s something I’ve been thinking about in terms of being a good ally and a good neighbor, especially here...

Where does Walt and Jess’s relationship go from here? Gilligan: That last scene had a very nostalgic and bittersweet feel … and it feels like a goodbye scene between those two characters. … Jesse is coming into his own. He was much less an assistant and more of a partner [this season] … The partnership does seem to be fractured; there’s no repairing the fracture

Male privilege is oversexualizing a normal part of a woman’s body to the point where she is punished for wearing a pair of shorts at school. They are legs and they get me where I need to go. I don’t “display” them for your enjoyment, I just made a mistake by assuming that partially exposing an appropriate part of my body on an 80 degree day wouldn’t land me in detention.

I really don’t accept the idea or justification that Britta’s sudden change of character (especially in the third season) is due to the “pulling down of her apparent facade she’s created and showing the study group who she really is, and being comfortable”. It’s a cop out.
I think there is some merit, but also…not. As many people know, I spent a long time defending...

Thirteen Instances of Caring: or, Why Mycroft...
shaddicted:
ibelieveinmycroft:
Mycroft Holmes bears the brunt of a lot of anger, both on our screens and off it. I understand; he’s a difficult character to get along with. We are given no black and white reason to like him. Sherlock, our titular character and protagonist, has an extremely antagonistic relationship with him. And the nature of narrative is that one is usually expected to side...

victorsmanreaction:
Breaking Bad is a really fucked up show. I’m getting better at introductions I promise. As expressed in my post about Jesse Pinkman (plugging this will never get old alright) BB is extremely corrupt. The two main characters are not your typical heroes. As a matter of fact, in the case of Walter White, I don’t think he’s much of a hero at all. This is the part where I warn you...

This is another one of my unnecessarily long posts about television. It is about Jesse Pinkman (don’t click if you don’t want spoilers obviously). I am tagging Aaron Paul because there’s a small section I dedicate to talking about his kickass acting. If you’re looking for sexy pictures of his cat puzzle I sadly can’t help you.

The ending of tonight’s episode, “Fifty-One,” reminded me of the ending of “Fly” from season three. They both concluded with Walter lying in bed staring at something (tonight, the watch from Jesse; in “Fly,” a fly on the smoke detector), perhaps pondering a recent day full of intense conversations.
In “Fly,” Walter had spent the day in the lab with Jesse trying to eradicate...

Use of colour in Breaking bad
kinderblum3n:
‘We know that colour is important to Vince Gilligan. The characters themselves have dressed in certain colours over the course of the series. Walt, for instance, used to wear mostly beiges, he graduated into dark blues, and now he wears a lot of black, representing his transformation from nice guy to anti-hero to villain. Likewise, Skyler used to wear a lot of blue. Now, when she’s...

Posey: The creator of my show always mentions, “Yeah, he’s a good actor, but he’s also ethnic. And he’s the lead of our show, so that’s going to help us.” It’s weird the way that he says it, but it’s true, and it’s cool, and I’m totally stoked.

thebrotherswinchester:
OKAY
First of all, it has to be slow. Like, really slow. I think at one point Jeff Davis said his ideal show length is 5 seasons, so I wouldn’t want it to even START happening (physically, not emotionally) until like the middle/end of the 4th season. And then they wouldn’t actually ~*get together*~ until literally like the end of the 5th season.
Let me explain.

Sean T. Collins: There's been a backlash against Skyler, something she has in common with women characters on a variety of big dramas about men who tend behave much worse than they do. Do you have a sense of why this happens? Does it faze you at all?
Anna Gunn: Some of it is still the double standard in our society – that it’s more acceptable for a man to be this antihero badass doing all these things that break the law or are really awful. People watching want to be Walt, or they identify with him. He doesn’t have to answer to anybody. He does what he wants. There’s a fantasy element to that, I think. I also think that in some ways, there’s kind of a sexism to it, honestly. Sometimes . . . [pauses] I’ve been told particularly, how do you say . . . non-flattering or just really vicious – you could use the word vitriolic – angry stuff about Skyler, or about other female characters on other shows. The hatred and the vitriol and the venom and the nastiness and the attacks are so personal sometimes that it feels like, "Oh gosh, OK, I get that you don’t like Skyler, you like Walt, you’re on his side, but it just feels different." I don’t feel like that stuff would be written about a male character. Honestly, Skyler is sometimes the biggest impediment to Walt doing whatever he wants. For the people who love Heisenberg, who love the badass Walt, when Skyler says, "No, you shouldn’t do that," they’re like, "What is her deal!? What’s wrong with her?" [Laughs] I can understand that. I can. But having looked at articles that cite other female characters being attacked like this, I find it disturbing just in terms of a cultural phenomenon. I'm not saying everyone who's into the show and has an opinion is like that, but I feel there's an element of that in there, and it's an interesting gender issue. I'm glad that people are talking about it.

A Message About Race and Racism in Teen Wolf

I have seen a number of posts regarding race and racism in Teen Wolf that reference a quote I made in an interview about my efforts in trying to build a world in the show that is somewhat idealized. IOU Explanation – 53-8-92 – Grimm’s Fairy Tales...
eva-christine:
We know that Moriarty leaves Grimm’s Fairy Tales as a clue for Sherlock to find the abducted children. But what if he also leaves this book as a clue to the IOU riddle?
It’s obvious that Sherlock doesn’t believe for one second in the binary code – the “code” he’s tapping out in Bart’s is completely different from Moriarty’s “Partita No. 1” sequence.
And yet, this scene in...
